Sorry for not posting sooner! We just now got Internet in our hotel rooms!
OK, so the final idea I'm going with is a very intimate look at someone desperately trying to hold on and pull him/herself up. This is going to be demonstrated literally, in that I'm going to have a person hanging off a ledge, trying to pull him/herself up. There are going to be others hanging off as well. Somehow, they manage to succeed, they reach their goal, they pull themselves up, they leave the threat of the abyss. But the character of focus, no matter how hard they try, no matter what they do to attempt to control the forces around them, they cannot pull up. My film will focus on the emotional hardship, the breaking of strength, and what happens when strength/hope/happiness runs out....an imminent fall? The juxtaposing element will be a kind of smiling face constantly facing the protagonist, almost mocking, almost benevolent, almost sadistic, maybe angelic that constantly taunts the person hanging. It is the constant view from up above, from where the "hanger" wants to be, the hand that is seemingly being offered in aid, something that has control...but that can't be grasped either. It is something to taunt you to insanity and magnifies the utter failure in the inability to pull upwards.
This will be shot in the dark. Use of lights will help visibility. Still considering various optical effects. Storyboards in formation. (Would post them but in lack of a scanner...bah) Have actors and film date set.
